All planned activities at Smart Start will contain a balance of structured learning and play.  Your child will meet many new friends, creating the opportunity to develop socialization skills such as sharing and taking turns.    We complement parents teaching of apprpriate behavior and manners through communication and involvement in discipline and safety rules.

Our programs include those for infant, toddlers and preschool age children.  We also provide summer care for older children.  We have a structured preschool program for those children between the ages of 3-5 years of age which is a collaborative effort with HeadStart.

You can be sure that our staff is professional and nurturing, expecting to partner with you regarding your child's care.  All have received extensive clearance checks through our licensing agent (DPW) and are certified in First Aid and CPR.  Because of our committment to children, we have bi-weekly staff meetings to discuss new techniques, safe environments and new childcare legislation.  Although the Department of Public Welfare requires only six hours of training per year for direct caregivers

(assistant group supervisors), our staff receive new cirriculum materials monthly and are scheduled to attend workshops.

Janet Seddon, Owner and Director of Smart Start Daycare and Learning Center, has 23years of experience in early childhood development.  Prior to opening Smart Start in October of 2001, she served as director at A.S. Wee Care Learning Center in Pittsburgh, PA.  A great deal of her experience comes from working with special needs children through organizations such as Holy Family Institute, Circle C Group and Allegheny Valley Schools.
